Landlord law updates

Take a look at the newest legislation and landlord law updates that may directly impact the way you handle your investment properties in 2018.

Ranging from updates to Fair Housing Laws, to handling smoking tobacco or marijuana, to pest control issues, these new developments could impact the way you run your investment properties in California.  At the very least, please consider these updates to review your responsibilities as a property owner in California.

Legislative Update 2018

Rent Control

One of the arguably largest impacts to property ownership is the movement to repeal Contra-Hawkins.  The Costa Hawkins Rental Act protects single-family homes and new construction residential units by exempting them from local rent control ordinances.  If your investment property is located within one of these localities, then you may be well acquainted with the impact that rent control can have on your investment.  Many of our clients are concerned about the impact it would have upon their property ownership.  We can identify whether your property is within a rent control locality, and help develop strategies for managing your property if it is required.
